Solution – Trivial Pursuit
ANSWER – SNAPDECISION

Solvers should be able to find an unsabotaged version of a Trivial Pursuit question card and take note of the letter that was scribbled out in each line. The scribbled out letter in each line appears twice in each trivia question answer. Furthermore, each trivia answer contains the same number of letters as their corresponding puzzle answer. By taking the two letters from the puzzle answers that are in the same position as the scribbled out letters in the trivia answers, solvers can extract the answer phrase: SNAP DECISION.

Authors' Notes

  • We wanted the answers to this meta to be as unconstrained as possible because of the full puzzle → snapped puzzle transformation in the second half of the hunt. Overall, I think this worked out well. Each puzzle writer just needed to come up with a trivia question whose answer had a certain letter in two places, and a puzzle answer that included two specific letters in the matching places.
  • It also let this meta be a bit more straightforward as a gateway into the more exciting parts of the Trivial Pursuit → Avengers theme transition.
  • Earlier versions of this meta involved the trivial pursuit gameboard and some complex movement around it, which also constrained the puzzle answers too much.
  • It was fun watching all the answers come in for this meta. It was clear many of you knew that some kind of decision had to be made, but took multiple tries until it finally snapped in place.
